Newsletter 2020 Term 1 Week 1

Welcome back. I hope you have had an enjoyable break. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families at New Hope School this year. I hope that you find New Hope School to be a caring and supportive community for you and your child.

Meet the Teacher Evening
The New Hope School ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening will be held in Week 3 on Tuesday 11 February. The evening will be held in the New Hope classrooms and will commence with a combined session at 6:30pm and conclude between 7:30pm and 8:00pm. This will be an opportunity to find out some important information about your child’s school routines. There will also be an opportunity to book a time for your Individual Education Plan meeting.

At New Hope School we are thankful for our staff team that work together to support the students. Please note the days that the following staff are at New Hope School:

Mrs Jayne Ng (Speech Therapist) – Monday (8am to 4pm) and Thursday (8am to 12noon)
Mrs Liz Harris (Counsellor) – Tuesday & Thursdays (8am to 4pm)
Mrs Jane Soper (Occupational Therapist) – Monday (8am to 2:30pm) & Thursday (8am to 2pm)

We are pleased to be welcoming two new staff to our team, although they are both very well known to the students. Mrs Sheree Swaisland will be working on Mondays and Fridays. She will be teaching Music in each class on Mondays and will provide some relief from face to face teaching for Mr Francis in Class F on Fridays. Mrs Carolyn Watkins will be working as a teacher assistant on Fridays. Mrs Swaisland has worked casually at New Hope School since 2015, and Mrs Watkins has worked casually at New Hope during 2019.

Pacific Hills Swimming Carnivals
In Week 3, Pacific Hills Christian School hold their swimming carnivals for Junior School (Friday 14th), Middle School (Thursday 13th) and Senior School (Wednesday 12th). If you would like your child to attend their swimming carnival please email me as soon as possible, so that we can ensure that you receive the information and a permission note. Supervision can be arranged for the carnivals where New Hope School students will be attending. These carnivals are Pacific Hills Christian School’s events and although New Hope School students are invited to attend, the event caters mostly for those who are able to participate in the swimming events. New Hope School will function as normal on these days.

Student Absences
The school requires a written note from parents to satisfy the NSW Department of Education and Communities regulations. To fulfil this obligation, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. advising the reason for the absence. Although it is not a requirement, it is helpful for teachers to be aware of a student’s absence at the beginning of the day which can be done by including the class teacher in the email that you send.
