Newsletter 2019 Term 1 Week 11

Term One reflections
As Term One ends it provides a good time to reflect on a wonderful term and God’s blessings to us. We are thankful for the wonderful people that are part of our school community. Our four new staff and three new students have settled in very well. This term has seen academic growth in our students as each student continues to learn new skills and gain new insights and knowledge. The students have also had an opportunity to serve in the community through work experience opportunities as well as this week for the school Community Service Day. The students have further developed their understanding of how to be caring and kind to one another and we have introduced the students to the verse in the bible that encourages them to be interested in their own life, but also care about the lives of others (Philippians 2:4). We continue to remind students that God loves them and we encourage the students to reflect God’s love in their words and actions.

PHCS 40th Celebration Fun Day
The students had a great day today with many activities for them to enjoy. It commenced with the whole school Easter Assembly followed by an Easter Egg hunt for our New Hope students. Activities for the rest of the morning included an indoor obstacle course, dancing and time on our own jumping castle which was set up in our play area for the day. After morning tea, the students had the opportunity to enjoy the many inflatable rides on the school oval. A sausage sandwich was provided for lunch and after all the fun of the morning the students were ready to settle in for the afternoon to watch their choice of three movies that were set up in each of our classrooms. What a wonderful way to celebrate the 40th birthday of Pacific Hills Christian School. We are thankful for this community and the many ways the staff and students of PHCS support our school.

Cumberland State Forest Excursion
The students had a great day yesterday (Thursday) at the Cumberland State Forest. They learnt about wildlife management within State Forests, threatened species and forest management. They went on a couple of walks looking at the different tree species and finished the day by potting up a bottle brush which they are able to take home. It was a great day.

Fun Run
Fun run

It was a sunny and warm day for the fun run this week. The majority of our New Hope students participated in this event by completing at least one lap of the course. The course started on the main oval and proceeded around the perimeter of the school which included a track around the school dam and some bush areas on our property. Congratulations to Cameron, Jed, Nathaniel, Thomas, Alessandro and Rebecca who completed two laps of the course. What a fantastic effort.
This fun run provided an opportunity to raise funds to support the Kenya Ambulance project and Bible League International. Thank you to the families at New Hope who have already sent in their sponsorship money. So far we have raised $244 for these projects.

Keep an eye out for pictures from each of these events on the New Hope School Facebook and Instagram sites. These can also be accessed via our website here .

Happy Easter
This week we have sent each of our students home with an Easter gift – ‘The seriously surprising story’. This book produced by the Bible Society and has been available to us at no cost. It provides a message for not only the younger child but also the older reader. This lyrical book is filled with joy as it explains the story of the risen Jesus.

I hope each of our families have an enjoyable time in this holiday break and a blessed time over Easter.
